British charcoal artist and printmaker
The landscapes I've lived, played, worked and walked in have shaped my life. In recent years I've come to realise how entangled they are with how I think, and with my state of mind. My work explores this relationship.
I don't set out to replicate the landscape I'm in. Instead, I'm interested in finding out what caught my attention about a view, a moment, a time of day. It isn't always obvious at the time.
I find my way once I start drawing or making prints. I work experimentally, following unexpected results where they lead and paying attention to what they reveal.
I work in charcoal and pastel. I also combine printmaking processes to make layered images, so I have an interesting time trying to keep drifts of charcoal and clean printing plates separate in my studio!
