British charcoal artist and printmakerThe landscapes I've lived, played, worked and walked in have shaped my life. In recent years I've come to realise how entangled they are with how I think, and with my state of mind. My work explores this relationship.
I don't set out to replicate the landscape I'm in. Instead, I'm interested in finding out what caught my attention about a view, a moment, a time of day. It isn't always obvious at the time. I find my way once I start drawing or making prints. I work experimentally, following unexpected results where they lead and paying attention to what they reveal. I work in charcoal and pastel. I also combine printmaking processes to make layered images, so I have an interesting time trying to keep drifts of charcoal and clean printing plates separate in my studio! |
